Audi TTS Official Safety Car for 2008 Tourist Trophy Motorcycle Races

The latest and most powerful Audi TT, the new 272Hp TTS Coupe has been chosen by organizers as the official safety car at the Tourist Trophy (TT) motorcycle races that runs on the Isle of Man, Britain from 24 May-6 June. Adrian Earnshaw, Minister for Tourism and Leisure, Isle of Man Government, commented: “It is a great opportunity to have Audi as our Official Car Partner especially considering the Audi TT sportscar is named after the TT motorsport event dating back over 100 years”. –One more pic after the jump

eBay: Audi R8 Lookalike for $45k

Our eBay find of the day concerns an Audi R8 “lookalike” based on the TT 3.2 V6 Coupe. For less than half the price of an original R8 -$109,000 in the US, the seller of this TT with a Caractere R8 Body kit is offering you the chance to buy a car that, in his own word’s, “everyone stops to ask if it’s an R8”. Audi TT: New 1.4 TFSI 140 Hp Coming to Leipzig

Downsizing is the name, and VW Group is the one who’s playing the game. Following yesterday’s announcement on the TT 1.8TFSI, Audi revealed that it will introduce an even smaller engine for its sport model, the 1.4-liter TFSI unit that combines a supercharger and a turbocharger generating 140 Hp.

The 1.4 TFSI unit is already available in wide number of VW Group models including the Audi A3, VW Golf and SEAT Leon. The reason that Audi decided to fit the TT with this unit is partially due to the stricter European emission and fuel consumption rules, but most importantly to attract a wider audience as a lot European countries calculate vehicle taxes based on engine size so the new smaller engine will reduce owners registration fees without sacrificing much of the cars performance.

The TT 1.4TFSI will make its world debut at the Leipzig Auto Show in Germany this month alongside the TT 1.8TFSI. Euro-wide sales will follow shortly after.

New Audi TT with 160Hp 1.8 TFSI Engine

Along with the TTS (2.0-liter, 272 Hp) and the TT 2.0 TDi (2.0-liter turbo diesel, 170Hp) that were presented earlier this year, yet another newcomer has been added to Audi’s sports car family: the TT 1.8 TFSI that is equipped with the VW Group’s 1.8-liter turbocharged engine that has an output of 160 hp and reaches 250 Nm (184.39 lb-ft) of torque between 1,500 and 4,500 rpm.

Available in both coupe and roadster forms, the TT Coupe 1.8 TFSi sprints from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 7.2 seconds while according to Audi, it features an average fuel consumption of just 6.7 liters per 100 km (35.11 mpg). The new basic version of the TT family will make its official debut at the Leipzig Auto Show in Germany in April, with sales in Europe following shortly after.

Once upon a time, magazines used Photoshop to create stunning magazine covers. Well actually they still do, but not all of them. Intersection mag, sunk an Audi TT 3.2 V6 into a pool along with a female model for the needs of a photo shoot. And while they were at it, they filmed the whole process in order to create a little buzz about themselves in the net. 2008 Audi TT El Camino – Credits Go To Danish Taxation System

Here’s what happens when you charge outrageously insane taxes on new cars: people turn passenger cars into trucks! Denmark features one of the most outrageous taxation systems in the world when it comes to cars (see our report on the European car taxation system by clicking here). There’s even a common saying in Denmark: “Get one car –pay for three”! So, in order to get around the tax burden, Danes turn cars into pickups, thus paying a fraction of the taxes.

We visited Audi’s official Denmark site to see the price-list of the 2008 Audi TT Coupe. Boy were we in for a surprise: prices start at 637,895 DK (Danish Krones) or $120,500 / €85,500 for the TT 2.0 TFSI 6-speed and go up to 805,492 DK or $152,200 / €108,100 for the TT 3.2 V6 FSi! MTM TT Bimoto: 393 km/h – 244mph Bi-Engine Audi TT Sets New Speed Record

Achieving a top speed of 393km/h – 244mph, MTM’s TT Bimoto set a new official record last week for the top speed on the test track in Papenburg. Equipped with two 1.8-litre turbocharged engines each producing 370Hp and a maximum torque of 475Nm, the €600.000 -$830.000 Audi TT based prototype was driven by the current champion of the Seat Supercopa 2006 Florian Gruber who is also currently driving in the Porsche Carrera Cup.

According to MTM, the Bimoto record ride was achieved in the second run of two trails, under windy conditions, partial rain and temperatures of around 20 degree Celsius – 60 Fahrenheit. MTM says that the trials are intended as pre-tests for runs in Nardo, Italy were the Bimoto TT is set to break the magic mark of 400 km/h (249mph) by the end of the month. -Continued: Click “Read More…” below to see images and a video
