Volkswagen to Double Production of Tiguan SUV

In order to meet customer demand (more than 100,000 orders) and reduce the long waiting times (up to 10 months in some cases), Volkswagen is planning to double the output of its new Tiguan compact SUV that went into production this month at its Wolfsburg plant. Currently, the German carmaker is producing 220 Tiguans a day but according to plant manager Siegried Fiebig, this figure would be increased to between 400 and 450 a day to help reduce lead times for the car.

VW Tiguan Awarded With 5-Stars In Euro NCAP Tests

Following earlier announcements today on the Hyundai i30 and Ford Mondeo crash test results, Euro NCAP (European New Car Assessment Programme) gave out the results for the 2008 VW Tiguan. The compact SUV did quite well achieving a maximum five star rating for occupant protection and four stars for child safety (out of five). Like most cars tested by Euro NCAP, the Tiguan achieved a mediocre two star rating (out of four) for pedestrian protection. -One more pic after the jump

Volkswagen has revealed two new official promotional videos of the all-new Tiguan SUV featuring the “Sport & Style” version which is designed for a maximum entry angle of 18 degrees and the “Track & Field” edition which is tuned for offroad duty for max entry angles of up to 28 degrees. Enough with the still shots and 3D films; here’s the first official video showing Volkswagen’s all-new Tiguan SUV getting some “deep down and dirty” off-road action. In case you’re wondering, and if you do, hats off for remembering, yes this Tiguan is equipped with “Track & Field” package. The latter adds a different front fascia to accommodate a 28-degree approach angle, and an Offroad Mode that utilizes ABS, the Haldex, the throttle, and both hill descent and climb features. -Thanks for the link Patrick!
