2010 Chrysler Delta Concept Cars at the Detroit Auto Show ready for production

As you know, Fiat-Chrysler alliance will produce a series of models developed by a manufacturer that will be marketed with the logo of other brands belonging to the consortium. To illustrate some of the changes that took place in the Fiat-Chrysler alliance, the Americans from Chrysler unveiled a Lancia Delta with a Chrysler logo. The compact Delta was present at the Detroit Auto Show with a changed front grille, along with Chrysler logo located inside and outside.

As a strange by product of the Chrysler/Fiat tie-in, a Lancia Delta wearing Chrysler badges appeared at the Detroit Auto Show’s Chrysler exhibit. There was no press release about the car. What’s more, Chrysler spokesmen seemed as surprised as we were. Let’s assume this was merely an exercise to see how the public would react.
Lancia debuted the new Delta, and this Chrysler concept cars apparently exists to demonstrate to the public that Chrysler now has foreign fingers in its pie. Powertrain? No details available, although twin exhaust tips in the rear suggest it has an engine. In Europe, the Delta is available with a choice of five powerplants; gasoline units are 1.4- and 1.8-liter turbo fours and there are also 1.6-, 1.9-, and 2.0-liter diesel inline-fours. Brembo brakes do this car’s stopping, and it wears 225/45-17 Goodyear Excellence rubber.
The only difference between this and the Delta sold in Russia, Turkey and the U.K. is the grille and Chrysler's name on the back end. Surprisingly, the exterior design fits well within the current state of Chrysler products and easily outshines most of what's on dealer lots right now. The interior looks a little disjointed for American tastes, however.
While there are a number of engines for the Delta overseas, it would likely get one of the new four- or six-cylinder engines Chrysler unveiled last week.
Although Chrysler Delta will not be sold too soon on the market in the United States of America, it exemplifies the changes that take place in the ranges of the two manufacturers in the alliance. We can expect the Dodge models to receive the logo of Alfa Romeo when Dodge will be sold in the US, and Dodge models receive similar treatment in Europe.

A panoramic full-length glass roof, navigation system, and automatic climate control attest to the luxurious trappings available on the car in Europe.
Although the interior looks like a lovely place to pass the miles, we think the car just looks awkward, with more of a goofy French style than the sensuous shapes we expect from Italians.

2011 New Chrysler Nassau Concept Cars will be launched later this year

According to U.S. sources the 2011 Chrysler Nassau will replace the Sebring as the next generation model (Chrysler Nassau concept cars pictured). The 2011 Chrysler Nassau will be the company's new mid-size sedan and will come on the market later this year. However, the 2011 Chrysler Nassau was not officially confirmed, nor denied for that matter. Although this name was used by the company for a 2007 concept cars , we should not expect the new 2011 Chrysler Nassau to look much like that concept.
2011 New Chrysler Nassau Concept Cars
The Chrysler designers have been working on completely new interior for the 2011 Chrysler Nassau and Dodge Avenger. The exterior will look substantially different. The 2011 Chrysler Nassau will offer the choice of two engines - 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine or a V6 Pentastar unit produced at Chrysler Trenton South engine plant.
Chrysler’s Sebring was never really anywhere near its competitors as far as its performance were concerned, which is why Chrysler has decided to make a fresh start with the car. And they have begun by giving the car a new name – Nassau – which is slated to hit the market in the last quarter of 2010 when it will replace the current Sebring.
The Nassau name plate was first seen on a concept car Chrysler had revealed in 2007. Chrysler also has a range of motorhomes available that are undergoing some modifications since earlier editions. Unlike the Sebring, motorhomes made by Chrysler are much larger and can accommodate more people in comfort. This type of vehicle is probably more suited to long distance travel and touring trips where motorhome hire is also an option for the vehicle.
The Chrysler’s Sebring is not being seen in good light of late, something that can be attributed to the sedan relying heavily on fleet and rental fleet sales with the majority of the grouse coming from the car’s interior quality which many claim is way behind what its competitors have on offer. Chrysler is of the opinion that the name ‘Sebring’ does not carry enough brand equity nor has any positive history associated with it that would make retaining the name for their all-new sedan really worthwhile.
“Chrysler bought the Nassau name when they came out with the concept, so it makes sense they would use it,” said Jim Hall, a consultant at a firm that is into advising automakers on future vehicles.
Another Chrysler Group model scheduled for replacement in the next 12 months is the Dodge Avenger. While little has been revealed on the new model (or whether it too will get a new name), previous reports suggested it would debut on a rear-wheel-drive platform as a sportier alternative to the Sebring.
That’s not all for there will also be an all-new Dodge Avenger to join the Nassau and is slated for a 2011 release with both the cars donning new interiors that Chrysler claims will match up to the best. The exteriors of the vehicles too will be a lot different so as to make them stand out as fresh new vehicles.
The 2011 Chrysler Nassau will be launched later this year. And The 2011 Chrysler Nassau price will be announced at a later date.

Chrysler Firepower V8 engine The extreme rear of the sport concept car

Chrysler Firepower V8 engine The extreme rear of the sport concept car

The Chrysler Firepower is an attractive and powerful concept, reaching 60 miles an hour in less than 4.5 seconds and continuing on to 175mph.
The Chrysler Firepower is based on a Dodge Viper chassis, and it's not impossible to see a resemblance. Muscular rear arches, wide low and flat bonnet and a cockpit pushed to the extreme rear of the car.
The rear view, especially the taillights and boot lid, have a distinct Aston Martin vibe. This similarity is not by accident, both cars are intended as luxury tourers designed to compete in the same market. Although the Firepower would probably be termed 'the poor mans Aston Martin.

Chrysler and Nissan Confirm Pick-Up & Compact Car Agreements

To put it simple, the two carmakers announced that the next generation Nissan Titan that’s expected in 2011 will based on the Dodge Ram (hopefully it will look nothing like our "chop") while in turn; Chrysler’s future sub-compact models will be made by Nissan.

This agreement comes a few months after Nissan agreed to supply Chrysler with a new car based on the Versa sedan for limited distribution in South America on an Original Equipment Manufacture (OEM) basis in 2009.

The new deal between the two companies will see Nissan manufacturing an all-new, fuel-efficient compact car based on a unique Chrysler concept and design. This new segment entry for Chrysler will be sold in North America, Europe and other global markets in 2010, and manufactured at Nissan’s Oppama Plant in Japan.-Continued

On its behalf, Chrysler will build a full-size pickup for Nissan. According to the Japanese company, the truck will be based on a Nissan unique design and it will be manufactured at Chrysler’s Saltillo (Mexico) Assembly Plant. In order to accommodate this product, Chrysler will shift volume from Mexico to its U.S.-based assembly plants that produce pickup trucks. Sales of the pickup in North America are expected to start in 2011.

“Forging the right tactical partnerships is critical to the long-term success of Chrysler,” said Tom LaSorda, Chrysler LLC President and Vice Chairman. “It also builds on the Company’s inherent strengths, including the ability to respond rapidly and creatively to emerging opportunities.”

“In January, we said we would continue to look for additional OEM opportunities with Chrysler,” said Carlos Tavares, Executive Vice President, Nissan Motor Company. “This latest agreement builds on Nissan’s proven track record to deliver win-win product exchanges with multiple manufacturers around the world,” continued Tavares.

Chrysler VP: “We Only Need About Half of our Current SUV Models”

In an interview he gave to Bloomberg TV from the New York International Auto Show floor, Chrysler LLC’s Vice President Jim Press said that the American automaker needs about half of its 11 current SUV models. According to Press, since the company has started merging the Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge brands into joint dealerships, there is no need for so many SUVs. “We're going to stop overlapping; we're going to bring everything under one roof. By doing that we will have more products in the markets we are not covering,'' Press said. “Our finances will have better quality.''

Chrysler LLC to Completely Shut Down for Two Weeks in July!

We can’t say that we weren’t expecting surprise moves from Chrysler LLC’s new owner Cerberus Capital Management LP, but to shut down the entire company for two weeks in July during the period when it usually closes only its assembly plants, is definitely a shocker. Chrysler LLC informed its employees of its shut down plan this morning (Thursday, March 13) in an e-mail that was sent by Chief Executive Officer Robert Nardelli.

This is the first closure for the struggling No. 3 U.S. automaker since its acquisition from Cerberus, as it attempts to cut costs and preserve cash. “This is a drastic cost-cutting step,'' said Dennis Virag, president of Automotive Consulting Group in Ann Arbor, Michigan. “Having the shutdown will be favorable to Chrysler's cash flow, but it's a drop in the bucket compared to what is required to stabilize Chrysler's financial footing.'' Chrysler Unveils New ‘Cuda Concept At SEMA!

These scoop pictures were taken from the SEMA showroom in Las Vegas today giving us a sneak peak of what the Chrysler Group has in store for us tomorrow morning. For the time being however, there’s no info whatsoever on the new ‘Cuda but it's obvious that the concept is based on the 2009 Dodge Challenger (click here) and it's wearing a Dodge Charger interior. We’re not going to get delirious and talk about a production version, but being the 60 & 70’s muscle car lovers that we are, we wouldn’t mind at all. -More images after the jump

2007 SEMA: Chrysler SR 392 Roadster 6.4-liter Hemi V8

Chrysler surprised us today with the release of a teaser sketch previewing a retro styled hot rod that will be officially uncovered at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas on October 30. Even though Chrysler doesn’t mention the Prowler once in the press release, it doesn’t take a petrolhead aficionado to make the association between the long dead Plymouth hot-rod and the SR 392 Roadster.

The concept is a collaborative build project between Chrysler’s Mopar Underground SEMA design team and Quality Metalcraft. According to Chrysler, it combines Mopar’s new 392 HEMI (6.4-liter V8) crate engine with the world’s first-ever steel reproduction of a 1927 street rod body. We’ll have more photos and info on the SR 392 Roadster later on. -Press release after the jump

Press Release - Custom SR 392 Roadster Featuring a 392 HEMI® Crate Engine from Mopar Will Debut at the 2007 SEMA Show

Auburn Hills, Mich. – What do you get when you combine the new 392 HEMI® crate engine from Mopar® with the world’s first-ever steel reproduction of a 1927 street rod body and three car-crazy designers? The result is a custom SR 392 Roadster that will debut in the Mopar booth (#42427) at the 2007 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show. The SEMA Show is the annual showcase of technology, trends and products representing the $36.7 billion automotive parts and accessories industry that will be held Oct. 30 – Nov. 2, 2007 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

For nearly two years, Chrysler’s Mark Allen and Ralph Gilles planned to build the SR 392 Roadster as a SEMA stunner with Michael Chetcuti of Livonia, Mich.-based auto supplier, Quality Metalcraft (QMC). Allen is chief designer, Jeep®/Dodge Truck Studios – Chrysler LLC and Gilles is Vice President of Jeep/Truck & CFM Design, Chrysler LLC. Gilles and Allen are members of Chrysler’s Mopar Underground SEMA design team, a group of in-house automotive enthusiasts who donate their time to SEMA project vehicles.

Allen said, "It was important to convey the car’s theme as an homage to Detroit – the cool Detroit with its unique artistic community, music and gritty vibe. We used durable materials and let the mechanicals show to reflect the industrial backbone of the city. We wrapped it all up in a high-gloss black-and-chrome wrapper to evoke Detroit’s cool attitude."

Allen, Chetcuti and Gilles saw a challenge in proving that the 6.4-liter HEMI crate engine could apply to a vehicle other than traditional muscle cars or modified up fits. The team’s idea was to redefine the classic hot rod with a more functional urban and industrial attitude to create a distinctly ‘Detroit’ roadster.

The project was assisted by Chetcuti’s QMC since the company has tooled, designed and now stamps the first-ever steel reproduction of a ’27 street rod body — the Shadowrods XL-27 Roadster and Lakes Modified bodies developed by hot rod legend, Jon Hall.

“The core design elements of this roadster speak to the grit and industrial edge of our city,” said Chetcuti. “Things like the mezzanine flooring detail and Eames-inspired seating — these take an industrial cue but are by no means ‘rat-rod.’ It is a refined and organized design throughout.”

After several design variations were discussed (California hot rod king Chip Foose even had a peek), Allen brought his full resources to the design’s completion. QMC stamped and performed the initial assembly on the reworked Shadowrods body – and fabricated and fit the revised hood, hood side panels, lower rocker panels and doors to the body.

With the car’s extremely low stance, Shadowrods was asked to build a custom frame using a unique staggered truss concept. For the final build of the SR 392 Roadster, QMC turned to longtime concept- and show-car builder Wheel to Wheel Powertrain of Madison Heights, Mich.

Overseen by Gilles, the Mopar Underground SEMA design team has been customizing Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge production vehicles for the SEMA show since its creation in 2002. The team creates tricked, tuned and customized vehicle concepts meant to develop performance parts, accessories and customization, vehicle concepts and keep the Mopar spirit and passion alive.
